Hope Lives – Vive la Esperanza is a peer- and community-run nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals affected by justice involvement, mental health challenges, and addiction. Founded and led by people with lived experience, Hope Lives provides culturally relevant and trauma-informed services designed to promote personal growth, recovery, and community reintegration. The organization’s mission centers on helping individuals overcome barriers to stability and self-sufficiency by offering behavioral health support, peer mentoring, and resource navigation.

Through programs like Forensic Peer Support (FPS), Hope Lives offers compassionate, strengths-based assistance for those navigating the justice system, including individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges. Forensic peers—those who have walked similar paths—provide guidance and encouragement from initial contact with law enforcement through successful community reentry. This unique approach fosters understanding, trust, and hope among participants while helping to reduce recidivism and support long-term recovery.

Hope Lives also promotes emotional wellness and teaches vital skills such as conflict resolution, self-awareness, and emotional regulation—tools that are key components of anger management and personal empowerment. By addressing underlying trauma and promoting positive coping strategies, participants learn to respond to challenges in healthy, constructive ways.

Serving six Arizona counties—Maricopa, Coconino, Navajo, Yavapai, Apache, and Mohave—Hope Lives partners with local organizations, healthcare providers, and social service agencies to provide comprehensive support, including life-skills training, employment assistance, psychoeducation, and recovery programs. With over 14 years of service and more than 4,000 individuals supported, Hope Lives continues to build stronger, more resilient communities where every person has the opportunity to live with dignity, purpose, and hope.
