Housing Works

Housing Works is a New York–based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive services and advocacy for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS and those at risk of infection. Since 1990, the organization has empowered more than 30,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers by offering essential programs such as housing assistance, job training, legal support, and integrated healthcare. With a strong commitment to social justice and inclusive care, Housing Works also provides specialized behavioral health services that address emotional wellness, stress, and anger management—helping clients build the skills needed for stability and personal growth.

Beyond direct services, Housing Works operates a range of social enterprises—including popular Thrift Shops, an Online Shop, and a Bookstore Café—that generate vital funding for its programs while offering job opportunities for graduates of its workforce training initiatives. These businesses not only sustain the organization’s mission but also strengthen the community by promoting conscious consumerism and meaningful employment.

Housing Works is powered by an active network of volunteers and supporters who contribute their time, talents, and resources through events, donations, and advocacy campaigns. Its annual benefits and community events, such as Design on a Dime, create both visibility and financial support for its lifesaving programs. Born out of the AIDS crisis, Housing Works continues to serve as a healing community committed to ending homelessness, expanding access to care, and creating a more compassionate and equitable society for all.
