The Cowlitz Indian Tribe Behavioral Health program provides comprehensive, culturally responsive care that treats the whole person rather than isolated symptoms. Recognizing that mental health challenges, substance use, and addictive behaviors often intersect, the program integrates emotional, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions into coordinated treatment planning. Services are designed to promote healing, resilience, and long-term wellness for individuals, families, and the broader community.

A strong focus is placed on mental health therapy, including individual, family, and group counseling, co-occurring services, and peer support. These services are especially valuable for individuals struggling with emotional regulation, impulsivity, and anger. Through evidence-informed approaches and culturally rooted practices, clients learn practical skills to manage intense emotions, reduce reactive behaviors, and improve communication and relationships. Group-based interventions, life skills programming, and therapies such as Moral Reconation Therapy help participants build accountability, problem-solving abilities, and healthier responses to anger and stress.

Substance use disorder treatment is offered through outpatient care that emphasizes relapse prevention, aftercare, and integrated support for both mental health and addiction. Medication-assisted treatment is available as part of a personalized recovery pathway, combining medical care, counseling, and culturally grounded support to reduce harm and support stability. Peer support specialists further reinforce progress by helping clients set goals, develop self-advocacy skills, and strengthen natural support systems.

Additional services include psychiatric medication management and responsible gaming treatment, addressing gambling-related behaviors that can strain emotions, finances, and relationships. Across all programs, the emphasis remains on dignity, cultural respect, and empowering individuals with the tools needed to manage anger, strengthen emotional balance, and move toward lasting recovery and well-being.
