SAGE Counseling, Inc., established in 1998, specializes in evidence-based services for the criminal justice system and court-referred clients. Utilizing approaches such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, the Stages of Change Model, Interactive Journaling, and empirically-validated assessment tools, SAGE aims to provide comprehensive support for those under court supervision, in diversion programs, incarcerated, or referred by the Arizona Department of Child Safety.
SAGE offers a variety of Substance Abuse Education and Treatment services, all beginning with a thorough assessment. These services are available across 18 outpatient clinics in Maricopa County and throughout Arizona. Programs include standard outpatient treatment groups meeting twice per week, intensive outpatient groups meeting three times per week, early intervention counseling, relapse prevention, an underage drinking program, complete DUI services, and Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Revocation Evaluations. Additionally, they offer 8 and 16-hour substance abuse education programs on weekends.
The Early Intervention Substance Abuse Program is tailored for clients who wish to address their substance use without a severe history of problematic use or abuse. Participants, often referred by the criminal justice system, typically do not have extensive criminal records.
The Underage Drinking Program is designed for adults aged 18-20 who have been charged with an alcohol-related offense but do not meet the criteria for more intensive treatment. This program includes an initial assessment followed by either an education class or short-term counseling, focusing on substance use reasons, consequences, and recovery strategies.
SAGE is licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) to provide all three misdemeanor DUI services: Screening, Level II Education, and Level I Treatment. Level II Education groups are usually held on weekends, with multiple Level I Treatment groups available throughout the week.
For those who have experienced a lapse or relapse, SAGE offers a Lapse/Relapse Prevention Group. This group meets once a week for two hours, focusing on identifying common recovery challenges and personal strengths, and teaching skills to maintain abstinence.
SAGE also provides 8 and 16-hour Alcohol & Drug Education Classes, covering the biological, psychological, and social consequences of substance use and abuse, legal implications, signs and symptoms of dependency, and an introduction to clinical treatment.
