The Driving Abuse Treatment & Education (D.A.T.E.) program offers counseling and educational services for individuals who have been arrested and convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or other drugs. It caters to both first-time offenders and those with multiple offenses, aiming to address the serious and often life-threatening behavior associated with impaired driving. For first-time offenders, programs such as Wet Reckless (SB 1176), First Offender Services (AB 541), and longer-term programs like the 6-Month (AB 762) and 9-Month (AB 1353) programs provide varying levels of education and counseling sessions. For multiple offenders, the D.A.T.E. program offers a 12-Month (SB 38) or an 18-Month (SB 1344) program, each including comprehensive education and counseling components, with the 18-Month program also incorporating re-entry sessions to support participants in their transition post-program. These programs are designed to confront and address the behaviors associated with driving under the influence, aiming to promote safer roads and responsible driving behaviors within the community.
