Drexel's Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides comprehensive support for individuals dealing with addiction, substance use, and related co-occurring disorders. This program emphasizes group therapy with small groups of up to 10 participants, ensuring a supportive and personalized treatment environment. Each participant also benefits from weekly one-on-one sessions with a lead counselor, facilitating individualized attention and care. Admission to the IOP requires a mandatory clinical or medical assessment conducted at Drexel Counseling Services, Inc. The program is tailored to each individual's needs based on the initial evaluation and ongoing follow-up.

Participants in the IOP engage in a range of therapeutic topics, including managing Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome, developing relapse prevention skills, handling urges and cravings, and understanding addiction's brain chemistry. They also explore the progression of addiction, the Twelve Steps, spirituality, and coping with loss and grief. The program addresses co-occurring disorders and their impact on addiction and recovery, and provides support for family issues.

In contrast, the Outpatient Program (OP) differs primarily in the time commitment required. While both IOP and OP cover similar topics and activities, IOP necessitates attendance 3-5 days a week for 2-4 hours each day, offering a more intensive treatment experience. OP involves less frequent sessions—typically 2-3 days a week for 1-3 hours—and focuses more on internal processes through didactic lectures.
