In Illinois, individuals convicted of a DUI must complete an alcohol/drug evaluation. For those involved in court proceedings, the designated evaluation agencies are as follows: Cook County residents should contact the Social Services Department, Lake County residents should reach out to NICASA, and DuPage County residents should consult the DuPage Adult Monitoring Department. When attending your appointment, it is important to bring a valid ID, a copy of your driving abstract (available for purchase online through cyberdriveillinois.com), documents from your arrest including BAC information, and any other relevant case documents. If you need assistance with fees, inquire about indigent fee options. Services are available in Polish on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and in Spanish on Saturdays.
Based on the assessment, your risk level will determine the required treatment and education:
- High Risk: Requires at least 75 hours of substance abuse treatment and active participation in a continuing care plan.
- Significant Risk: Involves a minimum of 10 hours of Illinois DUI Risk Education and 20 hours of substance abuse treatment, with ongoing participation after discharge.
- Moderate Risk: Includes 10 hours of Illinois DUI Risk Education and 12 hours of early intervention over at least 4 weeks.
- Minimal Risk: Mandates completion of 10 hours of Illinois DUI Risk Education.
For the Risk Education course, which is a 10-hour class, a National Risk Education certificate is issued upon completion. The course is priced at $99, and you should confirm approval with your court before enrollment.
