Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) is a long-term approach for managing addiction, specifically opioid dependence. This treatment involves daily medication with Methadone, which helps to stabilize individuals and improve their overall quality of life. While Methadone does not cure addiction, it significantly enhances life expectancy, health, and opportunities for education and employment. The most noticeable improvements often occur within the first year of treatment.
The process begins with a comprehensive assessment by both a physician and counselor to determine if Methadone is suitable for the patient. If eligible, treatment can start on the same day. New patients must visit the clinic six days a week for the initial 90 days. After this period, those who meet both State and Federal requirements may reduce their visit frequency.
Dosing is tailored to each individual, with the goal of finding the lowest effective dose that alleviates withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Patients are also paired with a personal counselor, whom they meet regularly to support their progress and address any issues that arise during treatment. This structured approach helps ensure that individuals receive the support and guidance needed for successful long-term recovery.
