The DUI Counseling Requirements and Evaluation process outlines specific guidelines for DUI defendants based on their assessed risk level. For those classified as Minimal Risk, the requirement is ten hours of classroom instruction divided into at least four sessions, each lasting no more than three hours. Moderate Risk individuals must complete ten hours of risk education, followed by twelve hours of early intervention spread over four weeks, and any additional necessary treatment. They must also actively participate in a continuing care plan if recommended.

For those at Significant Risk, the requirements include ten hours of Risk Education plus twenty hours of substance abuse treatment, divided into at least seven sessions. Additionally, these individuals must undergo six months of ongoing care, with sessions held either monthly for two hours or bi-monthly for one hour, with discharge contingent on the successful completion of the program.

High Risk clients face more intensive requirements, including a minimum of seventy-five hours of intensive outpatient or outpatient treatment, or a residential program, both followed by an aftercare plan. Clients without identified substance use disorder symptoms must also complete seventy-five hours of outpatient treatment, followed by an aftercare plan. All High Risk clients must complete an additional twelve months of care under similar session requirements as the Significant Risk category.

The DUI Evaluation Unit is licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Human Services to conduct these evaluations, ensuring compliance with DHS-DASA guidelines.
