Child & Adolescent Behavioral Services (CABS) offers comprehensive outpatient mental health services to youth and their families in Lake County. CABS provides counseling both in their offices and within the community, including schools, addressing a range of needs through trauma-informed therapy, crisis intervention, substance abuse counseling, case management, and psychiatric services.

The Screening Assessment and Support Services (SASS) program, part of CABS, provides 90-day crisis intervention for youth up to age 20 who are Medicaid recipients, involved with DCFS Youth in Care, or lack insurance. This program includes psychiatric hospitalization and follow-up outpatient treatment as needed.

Outpatient therapy at CABS includes individual, family, and group therapy sessions, lasting approximately 3 to 6 months, along with psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management.

The Youth Services Substance Abuse Program offers counseling for youth ages 12 to 20 with substance use disorders or experimentation issues, providing individual, family, and group therapy, as well as case management.

The Mental Health Juvenile Justice Program (MHJJ) supports Lake County youth aged 8 to 18 who have recent contact with or are at risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system. The program provides a liaison to connect families with necessary treatment resources over a six-month period.

Intensive Placement Stabilization (IPS) assists youth in DCFS Youth in Care who are at risk of losing their current foster placements or have recently transitioned between placements, aiming to stabilize their situation and prevent multiple moves.

The Family Support Program (FSP) offers intensive community-based or residential treatment services for children under 18, with state funds helping cover the costs.

CABS operates on a sliding fee scale based on income and family size and accepts Medicaid and Medicaid MCO insurance. For further details, visit the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (IHFS) website.
