Alcohol & Drug Services (LADS)

The La Porte Alcohol and Drug Services (LADS) program provides vital intervention, education, and case management services to individuals referred by courts, attorneys, or probation departments. Focused on reducing alcohol and drug-related offenses, especially impaired driving, LADS emphasizes personal responsibility and public safety through a compassionate, non-confrontational approach. The program supports offenders in making informed decisions to improve their lifestyle and prevent future substance-related criminal behavior.

LADS offers two state-certified DUI and substance abuse education classes: Level I and Level II, both of which are research-based, cognitive curriculums approved by the Indiana Office of Court Services (IOCS). The Level I Substance Abuse Informational Program is an 8-hour course designed for individuals seeking early intervention and includes a self-assessment module. The Level II Basic Information Program is a 16-hour class tailored for participants showing signs of substance abuse progression. Both courses utilize the Prime for Life – Indiana model or Alcohol and Drug Flex Modules to guide participants toward healthier decision-making.

Additional services include substance abuse evaluations, marijuana education classes, referrals to treatment, alcohol and drug testing, case management, and follow-up appointments. LADS aims to minimize substance-related harm by providing offenders with tools and resources to make better choices.

Eligible individuals include residents of La Porte County or referrals from courts, attorneys, or community corrections within Indiana. Out-of-state referrals are also considered on a case-by-case basis. By addressing substance misuse early, LADS fosters safer communities and helps offenders regain control of their lives.
