The Monroe County Drug Treatment Court (DTC) Program offers a structured, supportive pathway for individuals struggling with substance use disorders who are involved in the criminal justice system. As part of the Monroe Circuit Court’s Problem-Solving Courts, the DTC provides a voluntary program designed to help participants achieve sobriety, address mental health needs, and reduce recidivism. The program is available to Monroe County residents charged with nonviolent, substance-related felony offenses, excluding drug dealing. Participants must plead guilty to at least one felony, with charges dismissed upon successful completion of the program.
DTC requires active engagement in a personalized treatment plan, including group and individual counseling, recovery coaching, medication management, and regular drug testing. Participants are also closely monitored by a case manager and must attend frequent court appearances. Progress is incentivized with rewards, while noncompliance results in graduated sanctions. A minimum of two years of participation is required, with at least one year of sustained sobriety needed for graduation.
The program’s collaborative approach involves the Courts, Prosecutor’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Probation Department, treatment providers, and law enforcement. The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office plays a vital role in maintaining eligibility standards, advocating for effective sanctions and incentives, and dismissing charges upon program completion. Failure to comply with program requirements may result in termination and sentencing.
The Monroe County Drug Treatment Court empowers participants to make meaningful changes in their lives, focusing on recovery and productive citizenship rather than incarceration. This comprehensive approach aims to promote public safety and enhance the quality of life for participants and their communities.
