The Iowa Course for Drinking Drivers (DUI/OWI) is a required educational program for individuals convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) in Iowa, or for Iowa drivers who offend in another state. This course uses the Prime for Life 12-hour curriculum, which satisfies the educational requirements set forth by the state. However, it does not include the Substance Abuse Evaluation or jail time, and it is the participant’s responsibility to fulfill any additional court-ordered requirements related to their case.
The course is held over two consecutive days, with classes meeting on Fridays from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Participants are required to attend both sessions to complete the full 12 hours. Timeliness is crucial—anyone arriving more than 15 minutes late to either session will be asked to leave and will need to re-register and repay the course fee to complete the program. It is important to note that missing one session or being late will result in having to retake the entire course. Participants are advised to carefully review their court order to ensure all educational and legal requirements are met.
