The 12-Hour OWI Program is designed for individuals over the age of 18 who have been arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and need to fulfill Iowa State requirements under Sections 321J.2 and 321J.17 Subsection 2. This program helps participants understand and reduce the risks associated with alcohol or drug abuse, and guides them in making necessary changes to address their issues. It is also open to anyone looking to better understand their substance use challenges. The course does not include substance abuse evaluations. Participants with limited English proficiency must notify the provider and arrange their own interpreter.
The program costs $180, and those under 18 years old must contact the Iowa Department of Public Health for additional course information. The Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) offers several benefits, including experienced instructors, a high instructor-to-student ratio, and flexible class dates to accommodate various schedules. Courses are offered in several locations, including Council Bluffs, Atlantic, Clarinda, Harlan, and Shenandoah, based on enrollment availability. For more information about class dates and offerings, visit the IWCC website.
