In Iowa, individuals arrested or convicted for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) are required to complete a 12-hour drinking and driving education program before applying for the reinstatement of their driver's license. ASAC offers this state-approved class at its Dubuque office, which must be completed in one weekend with mandatory attendance at both sessions. Additionally, participants must undergo a substance use disorder evaluation at a licensed program and follow any treatment recommendations. ASAC is a licensed evaluation provider, and the class itself is also state-approved. The cost for the 12-hour class is $180, which must be prepaid at the time of registration. The class price is set by the Iowa Department of Education and may change. Upon completion of the program, ASAC will notify the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), which may take up to two weeks to process, potentially delaying license reinstatement. In addition to completing the class, individuals may need to pay civil penalties, reinstatement fees, and pass any required examinations, as mandated by the court or the DOT. Pre-registration is required for the class, and participants can get more information about their driving record by contacting the Iowa DOT.
