Urban Dreams OWI School offers an alternative to jail for individuals convicted of a first offense of operating while intoxicated (OWI). Their weekend OWI jail diversion program provides the mandatory 48-hour Iowa Department of Transportation Drinking Drivers Education training in a single weekend. Classes are held at a hotel, where students can relax in a casual setting with catered meals and limited smoke breaks. Participants share hotel rooms, with the option to pay extra for a private room. Time spent in the program counts as the mandatory two days in jail, and court approval is required for attendance.

The program is taught by certified instructors from the Prevention Research Institute and follows the Prime for Life curriculum. While this is an educational program, substance abuse assessments are available for an additional fee. It is important to note that the program is not a treatment program.

In addition to the OWI program, Urban Dreams provides a range of other free or low-cost services that members are encouraged to explore. Successful completion of the program may lead to the early reinstatement or restoration of driving privileges, helping participants regain the freedom to commute and support their families. Urban Dreams is committed to supporting individuals in their recovery journey and provides access to substance abuse treatment programs to develop healthy coping skills. Multiple locations are available across Iowa, including cities like Des Moines, Sioux City, and Council Bluffs.
