At Plains Area, we focus on treating the whole person by addressing both mental health conditions and substance use disorders through comprehensive assessments. Our intake process includes the use of screening tools, allowing us to tailor treatment plans to meet the specific needs of each individual. Clients can personalize their treatment plan with the help of the Daily Living Activities Scale (DLA-20), which guides therapists in determining the medical necessity for treatment services.

For individuals requiring co-occurring services, we ensure that both mental health and substance use goals are addressed through the same treatment plan with the same therapist. Substance use assessments are conducted using the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) scale to determine the appropriate level of care.

For those in need of substance use disorder (SUD) services, Level I care provides extended outpatient and continuing care services, offering fewer than nine hours of treatment each week for adults, or six hours for adolescents. Clients explore recovery, address any co-occurring conditions, and work on developing a self-directed recovery program. Evidence-based treatment modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing are used in both group and individual settings. Family therapy, 12-step self-help groups, and body movement groups like yoga are also encouraged as part of the recovery process.
