The OWI Class is a 12-hour program designed for individuals arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI), offering essential education and support to reduce future alcohol or drug-related problems. This class, required by the court system for the reinstatement of driving privileges, helps participants assess their risk for substance abuse and develop an action plan to avoid further issues. The program complies with the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Transportation’s requirements under Iowa Law 321J2 and 321J17. Classes are conducted on weekends, with a standard fee charged regardless of family income.

In addition to the OWI Class, the program offers comprehensive prevention and substance abuse education efforts to impact the entire community. Prevention specialists collaborate with local organizations to organize initiatives such as media campaigns and school-based programs, aiming to reduce substance abuse through education. The program also assists in creating coalitions for substance abuse prevention and promotes drug-free activities for youth and families.

Sieda is part of the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP), focusing on reducing the impact of substance use disorders in rural areas, particularly opioid use. Tobacco cessation services, including support for youth through Quitline Iowa and My Life My Quit, help prevent smoking, while also offering support for creating tobacco-free policies in schools, businesses, and healthcare environments. Through these diverse initiatives, the program addresses various aspects of substance abuse prevention and recovery, ensuring a healthier, safer community.
