The Health Department’s Behavioral Health Division offers a comprehensive range of services designed to support individuals and families dealing with mental health and substance use disorders. Their individual counseling and therapy services provide personalized one-on-one sessions for individuals of all ages, addressing a variety of mental health challenges and substance use disorders. Group counseling sessions are also available for adults, offering a supportive environment to connect with peers facing similar struggles. Specialized group therapy for children is provided through the school-based mental health program, with sessions available during summer months.
The division offers Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for individuals with opioid use disorders, combining medical care from a physician with counseling support from a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) professional. School-based therapy is accessible in several local schools, providing on-site mental health support for students.
The department also runs educational programs for those required to complete DUI/DWI courses and offers Mobile Treatment Services, which bring MAT directly into the community. The Mobile Treatment Unit currently serves locations in Federalsburg, Denton, Greensboro, and St. Michaels, with a team that includes a SUD physician, nurse, and counselor.
Additional services include medication management for psychiatric and MAT clients, as well as nursing services for Vivitrol injections and Hepatitis C testing. Care coordination is available to help clients connect with essential community resources, including housing and inpatient care options. The department’s prevention services aim to educate the community on behavioral health topics through events and outreach, including NARCAN training to prevent opioid overdoses. Through these diverse services, the Behavioral Health Division strives to promote wellness and recovery across the community.
