The Maryland Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Education Program at Beacon of Hope Wellness Center offers state-approved alcohol and drug education to individuals with a DUI or DWI conviction, helping them regain their driving privileges. The program, available for both adolescents and adults, is delivered in person through group sessions using an evidence-based curriculum. Topics include identifying triggers, understanding motor vehicle laws, the health consequences of alcohol and drug use, and strategies for relapse prevention. The goal is to raise awareness, foster behavioral changes, and promote sobriety, reducing the likelihood of future DUI offenses and substance misuse.
The program offers two levels of courses: Level I, a 12-hour Alcohol Education Program (AEP), is designed for first-time offenders with no prior history of substance abuse or dependence. It is conducted over six weeks in two-hour weekly sessions. Level II, a more intensive 26-week Alcohol Treatment Program, is tailored for individuals with multiple offenses or a history of alcohol or drug dependence. This program also includes random breathalyzer tests and urinalysis. Both levels of the program require participants to remain alcohol and drug-free during the intake and assessment processes. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate.
All classes are conducted in a group setting and emphasize the importance of personal responsibility and decision-making. Payment is required by money order or certified bank check, and participants must attend sober to ensure their participation.
