The Wicomico County Health Department offers a comprehensive DUI Education Program designed to meet the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) placement criteria for Level 0.5 Early Intervention. This program is ideal for individuals who require education and awareness regarding alcohol use and related risks, particularly those mandated to complete DUI classes. Participants are required to complete 12 hours of education over a minimum of six weeks, with group sessions held once a week. Each group session is two hours long, providing in-depth discussions on topics such as the scope of drinking, alcohol's impact on the body and family, understanding blood alcohol content (BAC), alcoholism, and recovery strategies.
DUI Education classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, beginning December 5, 2024, at the Wicomico County Health Department's facility on East Main Street in Salisbury, Maryland. Before beginning the program, participants must complete an initial intake assessment, which is billed through insurance. Following the intake, each class session is available for a self-pay fee of $55 per session.
The program is designed to promote education and prevent future alcohol-related incidents by providing participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to make healthier choices. These classes offer a structured and supportive environment for individuals to learn about the consequences of alcohol misuse and the steps needed for recovery and relapse prevention. The program is particularly beneficial for those who may not meet the criteria for a substance use disorder but could benefit from early intervention and education to reduce their risk.
This program is an important resource for individuals seeking to comply with court mandates or proactively address their alcohol-related behaviors. Participants are encouraged to schedule their intake appointment in advance to ensure timely enrollment in the program.
