The Maryland Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Education Program at Beacon of Hope Wellness Center is a State-approved program designed to help individuals with DUI or Driving While Impaired (DWI) convictions regain their driving privileges. The program offers in-person, face-to-face classes for both adolescents and adults. The DUI education curriculum is evidence-based and focuses on educating participants about alcohol and drug use while operating a vehicle or boat, addressing topics such as identifying triggers, making better life decisions, motor vehicle laws and penalties, health consequences of alcohol and drug use, and relapse prevention. The group format of the classes encourages participants to raise awareness, influence behavioral changes, and maintain sobriety, helping to reduce the risk of future DUI/DWI offenses and substance misuse problems. Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a certificate.

DUI classes are specifically tailored for individuals with minimal or mild treatment needs, often due to first-time offenses. This process typically spans 12 weeks, with one-hour sessions held weekly. Clients begin by completing a 5-minute screening, either in person or by phone, which may be followed by a comprehensive assessment. The screening process is flexible, and assessment appointments can be scheduled quickly, often within the same day or within two working days. Based on the assessment, clients are referred to the appropriate level of care, including Intensive Outpatient (IOP), Traditional Outpatient, or DUI services. In cases where additional psychiatric or detox services are required, referrals to suitable agencies are provided. The center is committed to delivering high-quality care and ensuring clients receive the necessary services for their recovery.
