DWI Education Classes
The 12-Hour Alcohol Education Program (AEP) is a six-week instructional course designed for individuals convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI). The program focuses on providing essential education about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving, helping participants better understand the impact of alcohol-related offenses and promoting safer driving behaviors.
Participants may be required to attend the AEP for several reasons. Enrollment is typically mandated by a District Court judge, an Administrative Law Judge from the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), or as part of the process for reinstating a driver’s license after it was revoked due to an alcohol-related incident.
To enroll in the program, individuals must first receive a referral from the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). The MVA will send a letter detailing the necessary steps, including completing a preliminary alcohol assessment and registering for the alcohol education program. This structured process ensures participants receive appropriate guidance and resources to meet legal and rehabilitation requirements.
The AEP aims to reduce the likelihood of repeat offenses by increasing awareness and encouraging responsible decision-making regarding alcohol use and driving.
