Alcohol & Substance Use Education and Testing Services
The Alcohol & Substance Use Education Weekend program aims to reduce recidivism among individuals charged with driving under the influence. This intensive 6-hour weekend program educates participants on the impact of alcohol and other substances, encouraging them to reflect on their behaviors and make meaningful changes. Core components of the program include understanding impaired driving laws, the medical and neurological effects of drugs and alcohol, addiction as a disease, personal risk assessment, and prevention strategies. Participants are introduced to community resources and treatment options. Following completion, a report is provided to the referring agent for individuals not requiring further outpatient treatment. For those seeking continued support, optional follow-up sessions are available to reinforce behavior change.
P.A.T.S. also offers comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Assessments/Evaluations conducted by certified addiction counselors. These evaluations include drug and alcohol screening, with the option for expedited services if needed. Participants are required to bring relevant documentation as outlined in the program’s FAQs. The Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS) is used to assess the risk and needs of adult offenders. Conducted by trained assessors, these evaluations occur twice within a six-month period. Note that P.A.T.S. no longer provides Driver’s License Reinstatement Assessments.
Drug testing services are available by referral or on a walk-in basis. Tests include random breath tests (PBTs), urinalysis, oral swabs, and lab-confirmed results. Available testing panels range from 6-panel + EtG to 14-panel + EtG, with options for instant 5-panel screens and specialized tests for substances like Kratom and Fentanyl. Tests required for driver's license reinstatement by the Michigan Secretary of State are also accepted.
