Health Connections provides two Driver Intervention Programs (DIP) in Ohio: the 72-Hour and the 6-Day options. Designed for individuals charged with a first-time Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI) offense, these programs aim to identify thinking errors and promote behavioral change. The 72-Hour DIP serves as an alternative to a mandatory three-day jail sentence, running from Thursday evening to Sunday evening. Participants stay on-site for the duration, engaging in educational activities that address the consequences of alcohol and drug use, their effects on driving performance, and legal implications.
For those facing higher tier OVI charges, the 6-Day DIP extends the curriculum by an additional three days, concluding on Wednesday at noon. This program encourages deeper group discussions and personal reflection related to the OVI charge. Following completion, referring courts receive notification within two days.
Both programs include a comprehensive curriculum covering critical topics such as the physiological impacts of substance use, blood alcohol content (BAC), symptoms of abuse, the progressive nature of addiction, and available treatment resources. Participants also receive a personalized screening, which may lead to further assessment for alcohol and/or drug issues. Certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, these programs are led by licensed and experienced professionals specializing in chemical dependency, ensuring that participants receive high-quality support and guidance throughout their educational journey.
