The Driver Intervention Program (DIP) offers a structured alternative to jail for first-time Operating a Vehicle while Impaired (OVI) offenders, spanning three to six days. This program focuses on helping participants reflect on their OVI experiences and develop personalized strategies to prevent future incidents. Certified by the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services (OMHAS), DIP incorporates both individual and group discussions to enhance understanding and awareness of the consequences of impaired driving.
Participants will learn about current OVI laws, the impact of OVIs on insurance rates, the effects of drugs and alcohol, and the stages of addiction. The program also emphasizes the consequences of chemical dependency on families and communities, providing insights into recovery options for those affected by addiction. DIP programs are available in both three-day and six-day formats, beginning on Thursdays and concluding on Sundays or Tuesdays, respectively. Attendees must reside at the DIP location for the duration of the program.
Costs for the program vary, with shared and private room options available. Financial assistance may be accessible through OMHAS funding for those in need. Registration can be completed over the phone or through downloadable forms, with payment options including cash, checks, and credit cards. Participants are advised to bring personal items, appropriate clothing, and necessary prescriptions. Electronic devices are allowed but must be stored outside of meeting areas to maintain a focused environment. DIP also now offers an on-site Spanish-speaking interpreter to accommodate diverse participants.
