Prevention and Intervention Services at Axis I Center of Barnwell

The Axis I Center of Barnwell’s Prevention Team is committed to empowering and educating youth and their families. Our prevention programs focus on equipping families with the skills to address curiosity, peer pressure, and internal struggles in healthy ways, thereby preventing high-risk behaviors and substance abuse. We advocate a holistic approach to wellness, including healthy eating, active living, and maintaining a drug-free lifestyle, supported by numerous community partnerships.

Our staff is internationally certified through the South Carolina Association of Prevention Professionals and Advocates and the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium. They deliver evidence-based programs tailored to local, state, and federal data. Our offerings include Botvin’s Lifeskills Curriculum, Project Northland, and various educational programs addressing alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Additionally, we offer specific curricula like Nu-CULTURE for teen pregnancy prevention and Darkness to Light for child sexual abuse prevention.

In collaboration with community coalitions such as ECHO and HEALing Partners, we enhance community health through initiatives like the Barnwell Farmers Market. Our intervention services include alcohol and drug safety action, anger management, truancy intervention, and employee assistance programs. We also provide critical support through Narcan, Fentanyl Testing Strips, and Xylazine Testing Strips.

Our treatment services range from adolescent and adult outpatient programs to crisis intervention and medication-assisted treatment. We offer a range of services including individual and group counseling, case management, and recovery programs. We maintain a flexible fee structure for self-pay clients and accept Medicaid and most commercial health insurance programs.
