The Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP) is a statewide initiative in South Carolina designed to address substance abuse among individuals charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Boating Under the Influence (BUI), and related offenses such as suspended licenses. With thousands of South Carolinians affected annually by alcohol- or drug-related crashes, ADSAP aims to enhance highway safety by offering assessment, education, intervention, and treatment services. The program is certified by the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS) and is accessible across all 46 counties in the state.
State law mandates that individuals convicted of DUI must complete ADSAP to qualify for relicensing through the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The primary goal of ADSAP is to reduce the likelihood of repeat offenses by providing targeted interventions and education. The program includes a comprehensive intake process where clients present necessary documents and undergo an orientation on rights, confidentiality, and financial obligations. Following this, clients meet with a clinician to assess their needs and receive personalized services.
A key component of ADSAP is the PRIME For Life (PRI) program, an alcohol and drug education initiative aimed at challenging and changing high-risk behaviors. PRI focuses on helping participants make better choices to reduce the risk of health issues and impairments. The program is evidence-based and has demonstrated effectiveness in promoting behavioral change among individuals struggling with substance abuse.
