The South Carolina Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP) is a comprehensive statewide initiative designed to address the needs of individuals convicted of driving under the influence (DUI), boating under the influence (BUI), or those facing license suspension through the state's Administrative License Revocation (ALR) process. The program also caters to drivers charged under "zero tolerance" laws, targeting those under 21, and those with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15 percent or higher. Enrollment requires a 10-year driving record or proof of DUI conviction, a valid photo ID, any prescription medications, and a $100 deposit, with additional fees based on the level of care required.
The ADSAP aims to mitigate the impact of alcohol and drug-related crashes, which contribute significantly to injuries and fatalities across South Carolina. To reinstate a suspended driver's license, individuals must successfully complete ADSAP. The South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services certifies the program, which is available through county alcohol and drug abuse authorities across all 46 counties.
Education and treatment groups are available on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends. Initial assessments are offered on a walk-in basis from Monday to Thursday at 8:15 AM. The program's structure and availability ensure that individuals have access to the necessary resources to address their substance use issues and work towards regaining their driving privileges.
