The Texas DWI Intervention (Repeat Offender Program) mandates individuals convicted of subsequent DWI offenses to participate in an approved program by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Failure to complete the program can result in license revocation until the requirements are fulfilled.
New Hope DWI Intervention Program, certified by DSHS (certification number DWII 1353), offers a standardized 30-hour program designed for repeat DWI offenders and those with alcohol or drug-related issues beyond the scope of first-offender programs. Led by Program Administrator Clausell Stokes, the program aims to intervene in offenders' substance abuse patterns, facilitate treatment entry if necessary, and prevent future alcohol or drug-related problems.
Course topics encompass lifestyle issues, values, self-esteem, responsibility, and the physiological and psychological effects of drugs and alcohol. Participants also learn about alcoholism, chemical dependency, the impact of substance abuse on family members, co-dependency, treatment options, self-help groups like Al-Anon, peer pressure, relapse prevention, and problem-solving techniques. Personal action planning is emphasized throughout the program.
