Welcome to Intervention/Offender Education Programs at Amarillo College. DWI Intervention Repeat Offender Program:
This program, certified by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation – Offender Education Programs, is mandatory for individuals convicted of multiple DWI offenses. Non-completion results in the revocation of the offender’s license until the program is fulfilled. Spanning 32 hours, the program is tailored for repeat DWI offenders and those with significant alcohol or drug-related issues that the first offender program does not address.
The primary aim of the DWI Intervention Program is to disrupt the substance-abusing lifestyles of participants and motivate them to seek treatment, thereby preventing future substance abuse problems. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of topics, including lifestyle issues, values, self-esteem, positive thinking versus irrational beliefs, and personal responsibility.
Participants will also learn about the physiological and psychological effects of drugs, the nature of alcoholism and chemical dependency, and the impact of drug abuse on family members. Key components of the program include discussions on co-dependency, Al-Anon, treatment options, 12-Step Self-Help Groups, peer pressure management, relapse prevention strategies, problem-solving, and action planning.
Through addressing these critical areas, the DWI Intervention Repeat Offender Program equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to overcome their substance abuse issues and lead healthier, more responsible lives.
