Portsmouth Department of Behavioral Healthcare Services
The Portsmouth Department of Behavioral Healthcare Services (DBHS) has been a cornerstone of the community since 1969, providing essential mental health, intellectual disability, and substance abuse services. DBHS prioritizes individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health, or substance use disorders, especially those facing additional challenges such as pregnancy, intravenous drug use, HIV, mental health crises, recent hospital discharge, or diversion from a psychiatric hospital or jail. These individuals receive immediate assessment and triage within 24 hours of contacting the agency.
