The Florida Safety Council offers two DHSMV-approved DUI School courses, providing comprehensive education and evaluation for individuals cited for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Established in 1973, the council serves the Ninth and Eighteenth Judicial Circuits, ensuring that all courses and staff meet the rigorous certification standards set by the state of Florida (Administrative Rules 15A–10). Certified instructors teach both Level I and Level II DUI classes, while certified evaluators handle the assessment components, ensuring compliance with Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) requirements.
Upon successful completion of both the educational and evaluation components, students receive a tamper-proof certificate of completion, which they can present to the courts or probation. Completion reports are electronically submitted to the DHSMV, ensuring timely updates. The program also reports unsuccessful completions if the requirements are not met within 90 days. In cases where treatment is recommended, only approved providers can issue the necessary certificates upon successful treatment completion, with status updates sent directly to the DHSMV.
Additionally, the Florida Safety Council offers specialized programs to reduce repeat DUI offenses, including the Special Supervision Services and Ignition Interlock Programs, developed in collaboration with the DHSMV. The council also created the Victim Awareness Program, designed to help offenders understand the impact of DUI offenses from the perspective of victims, fostering a deeper sense of accountability and awareness in a non-confrontational manner.
