The St. Joseph Safety and Health Council is a state-certified provider of the Substance Awareness Traffic Offender Program (SATOP), a comprehensive program designed to reduce repeat alcohol- and drug-related driving offenses in Missouri. SATOP’s mission is to educate individuals on the dangers of impaired driving, promote responsible decision-making, and motivate personal growth to contribute to public safety and health. The program provides individuals with an opportunity to address substance use issues while fulfilling legal requirements following a DWI or DUI offense.
As a certified Offender Management Unit (OMU), the council conducts assessments using the Driver Risk Inventory Screening to determine the appropriate level of services for each participant. Assessments include a review of driving records and blood alcohol content (BAC), a computerized screening, and a personal interview with a qualified substance abuse professional. The process is standardized across all SATOP providers and costs $375, with assessments available both in person and online for added convenience.
Based on the assessment, participants may be referred to the Offender Education Program (OEP), a 10-hour course for lower-risk individuals, or the Weekend Intervention Program (WIP), a 20-hour intensive program for high-risk or repeat offenders. OEP classes are typically held on the first weekend of each month, while WIP sessions occur on the third weekend. Fees for these programs range from $200 to $474.46, with reduced fees available for eligible participants.
In addition to SATOP services, the council offers Kansas DWI/DUI assessments. Through these programs, the St. Joseph Safety and Health Council supports individuals in making safer, more informed choices and reducing the likelihood of future offenses.
