The Substance Awareness Traffic Offender Program (SATOP) is a comprehensive, community-based treatment and education initiative designed for individuals charged with substance use-related driving offenses. SATOP offers a structured approach to education and rehabilitation, helping participants address the impact of drugs and alcohol on driving while encouraging safer, healthier behaviors.
Services provided by SATOP include screenings and evaluations, which can be done on a walk-in or scheduled basis. During the screening, eligibility for state aid is determined for those who qualify, making services more accessible.
SATOP provides a range of programs tailored to meet varying levels of need. The Offender Education Program (OEP) is a 10-hour educational course focused on DWI laws and the consequences of impaired driving. For those requiring a more intensive approach, the Weekend Intervention Program (WIP) offers 20 hours of education and counseling over a weekend, addressing substance use, DWI laws, and their implications.
For participants with higher needs, the Clinical Intervention Program (CIP) provides 50 hours of in-depth education and counseling. The most intensive option, the Serious Repeat Offender Program (SROP), consists of at least 75 hours of education and counseling delivered over no less than 90 days, catering to those with repeated offenses.
Each program is designed to foster accountability and promote long-term behavior changes, with the ultimate goal of improving public safety and reducing substance-related driving incidents.
