OCCS is approved to offer the Weekend Intervention Program (WIP) as part of the Substance Awareness Traffic Offender Program (SATOP) in Laclede and Pulaski counties. The first class will begin in January 2025. SATOP is a mandatory program for individuals seeking to regain legal driving privileges in Missouri after a Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or other alcohol-related offenses.
The process begins with Step 1: Screening and Evaluation, which includes a multiple-choice and true/false test, followed by an evaluation with a certified SATOP professional. This step takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, requires scheduling at least 48 hours in advance, and has a state-mandated fee of $375 (payable in cash or money order). Screenings are available at the Lebanon and St. Robert offices.
Step 2: Completion of Assigned Program Level
Based on the evaluation, participants are referred to one of four levels:
- Level 1: Offender Education Program (OEP) – A 10.5-hour education course held over a Friday evening and Saturday. The fee is $200, payable at the start of the program. Currently offered once per month in Lebanon.
- Level 2: Weekend Intervention Program (WIP) – A weekend-long intervention program from Friday evening to Sunday at an approved provider. The cost is income-based, and participants will receive further instructions upon referral.
- Level 3: Clinical Intervention Program (CIP) – 50 hours of group and individual counseling over 6-10 weeks at a certified treatment center. Fees are income-based.
- Level 4: Serious and Repeat Offenders Program (SROP) – 75 hours of group and individual counseling over 7-12 weeks for high-risk offenders. Fees are income-based.
For those required to complete SATOP, OCCS provides structured, professional intervention and treatment programs designed to promote responsible decision-making and safer roads.
