The Intoxicated Drivers Resource Center (IDRC) was established in 1984 following legislation mandating county-based programs for individuals convicted of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in New Jersey. According to NJSA 39:4-50, all offenders are required to complete a twelve-hour educational program as part of their rehabilitation process. The Burlington County IDRC offers a comprehensive two-day education program that includes a treatment resource guide, connecting participants with available substance abuse treatment programs, counseling services, and self-help groups within the community.
Each participant is screened by a Licensed Clinical Alcohol/Drug Counselor, and those in need of further support are referred for a drug and alcohol assessment. This ensures that individuals receive the appropriate care and resources necessary for their recovery. The IDRC operates under the Intoxicated Drivers Program of New Jersey and is aligned with the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Throughout the treatment process, all clients are monitored closely by the IDRC, which also oversees the treatment of Burlington County residents convicted of a second DUI, who are mandated to attend a 48-hour regional IDRC program. This structured approach aims to promote accountability and facilitate recovery for individuals grappling with substance use issues.
