The Intoxicated Driver Resource Center (IDRC) in Atlantic County offers two court-mandated programs—12-hour and 48-hour—designed for individuals convicted of driving under the influence. These programs serve as educational alternatives to jail time, aiming to raise awareness and prevent future offenses.
The 12-hour program occurs bi-monthly, typically on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Participants are required to attend two consecutive sessions, and strict punctuality is enforced. Classes are held at the Shoreview Building in Northfield, NJ, and cost $264, with payment due on the first evening. Acceptable payment methods include money orders, certified checks, or credit/debit cards issued in the participant's name. Attendees must also bring proof of any prior substance abuse treatment.
In contrast, the 48-hour program is available only to Atlantic County residents and runs three times a year. Classes begin on a Thursday or Saturday, with participants staying overnight at a designated camp for the duration. The cost for this program is $321, with similar payment guidelines as the 12-hour course. Meals are provided during the stay, and participants must bring personal items such as toiletries and bedding.
Both programs emphasize the importance of attendance; failure to complete them may result in a two-day jail sentence and delays in restoring driving privileges. Individuals who arrive under the influence will be denied entry and referred back to court. Rescheduling is permitted only for medical emergencies with proper documentation.
