The Impaired Driver Program (IDP) offered by our organization is licensed by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and fulfills both DMV and court-mandated training requirements. Classes are available weekday evenings and Saturday mornings at our locations in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens.

To enroll in the IDP, you must first register at a DMV office using Code #8500. This program is designed for individuals convicted of alcohol or drug-related driving violations in New York State. Such convictions typically result in the revocation or suspension of your driving privileges. However, by participating in the IDP, you may be eligible for a conditional license or driving privilege that allows limited driving under certain conditions.

The program provides an in-depth education on the risks associated with alcohol and drug use while driving, helping participants recognize and change high-risk behaviors. Through multimedia presentations, guided discussions, and group activities, participants engage in a curriculum aimed at motivating lasting behavioral changes. Each participant also undergoes a preliminary screening to assess the risk of a substance use disorder, with referrals for further evaluation or treatment if necessary.

Participation in the IDP does not mitigate fines, fees, or penalties associated with the driver responsibility assessment program. It is important to understand the full implications of not participating in the program, as detailed on the DMV website. The goal of the IDP is to reduce the incidence of impaired driving and prevent future offenses, ultimately making New York State roads safer for everyone.
