At the Adult Recovery Unit (ARU) in Waynesville, North Carolina, families can find the support they need to navigate life's challenges through comprehensive clinical care. This 24-hour residential treatment facility serves adults aged 18-64 facing mental health and substance use issues or intellectual/developmental disabilities. Under the guidance of a psychiatrist, a skilled treatment team provides essential services such as psychiatric evaluations, medication management, individual and group counseling, and wellness education. A key component of the ARU's approach is aftercare planning, which begins upon admission to ensure a seamless transition and continued support post-discharge. The typical stay at the ARU ranges from 5 to 7 days, depending on individual needs and the nature of the crisis. Special provisions are made for individuals struggling with IV drug use and pregnant women facing substance abuse challenges.

In addition to the ARU, the Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP) offers structured outpatient services designed to aid adults in starting their recovery journey. This program involves a minimum of three hours of treatment per day, three days a week, focusing on group counseling, individual support, relapse prevention strategies, and life skills training. The facility also provides DWI assessments and recommended treatments for individuals convicted of Driving While Impaired in North Carolina.
