If you are a North Carolina resident charged with DWI or DUI, the first step to restoring your driver's license is completing an assessment. At Smart Choice, we provide a supportive and nonjudgmental environment to guide you through this process. Appointments can be scheduled at our Monroe or Charlotte offices, and we also accommodate walk-in assessments for immediate needs. The state-regulated assessment fee is $110, applicable to all DWI assessment providers in North Carolina.

For those charged out of state, Smart Choice can assist with out-of-state assessments and ensure all necessary paperwork is handled accurately and promptly, with a fee of $150. If you live outside North Carolina but were charged with a DWI here, you will need an Out-of-State Review. This allows you to complete your assessment and recommended treatment in your home state. After finishing your assessment and treatment, you can schedule a phone assessment with Smart Choice.

Following this, if no further treatment is required, a Smart Choice expert will complete an E-508 form, indicating that you have met your treatment obligations. This form will be submitted to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the DMV. Once the E-508 is approved, any blocks on your driving privileges will be lifted, allowing you to regain full driving rights.
