A DWI, or Driving While Impaired, is a serious offense in North Carolina that encompasses both driving and being in control of a vehicle while intoxicated. Individuals facing DWI charges must complete specific requirements set by the DMV, beginning with a DWI Assessment at an NCDWI-approved office. This assessment determines the number of hours of treatment necessary, which can range from 26 to 70 hours, based on the individual case. Even if a person was not actively driving, they can still receive a DWI ticket if found intoxicated while in control of a vehicle.
To initiate the process, individuals need to bring several documents to their assessment, including a photo ID, the ticket received during the offense, attorney information, court documents, and a copy of their driving record. If they do not have a driving record, the office can obtain it for a fee. After completing the required sessions and settling any outstanding balances, participants must provide their conviction date to officially close their case, allowing the office to submit their information into the NCDWI e508 system.
Our DWI program is fully licensed and approved by NC DHHS and DMV, offering comprehensive services related to DWI charges. These services include assessments, short and long-term treatment options, referrals, and educational programs like the Alcohol and Drug Education Traffic School (ADETS) and Prime for Life. We are dedicated to supporting individuals through this challenging process.
