The Buena Vista Correctional Complex consists of three distinct facilities: Buena Vista Correctional Facility (BVCF), Buena Vista Minimum Center (BVMC), and Transitional Work Center (TWC). Established in 1892 as the Colorado State Reformatory, BVCF accommodates up to 934 inmates at medium and close custody levels. BVMC, which began operations in 1999, houses 300 inmates at the minimum restrictive custody level. The Transitional Work Center, originally launched in 1991 as part of the Colorado Correctional Alternative Program, transitioned to its current form in 2019 and can house 75 inmates at minimum and minimum restrictive custody levels.
